In traditional Vastu Shastra, an east-facing house is considered favorable due to the positive energy that radiates from the rising sun, new beginnings, and good fortune. But, the orientation of a house is only a part of Vastu analyses. Also, room placement and entrance position and the overall floor plan are taken into account.
This guide discusses the common house Vastu suggestions for those who come to buy or arrange a house.
In the traditional Vastu, it is believed that homes with an east-facing main entrance are considered to be favourable, especially if the main door is located at an appropriate spot on the east side. But all the east facing property does not necessarily abide by Vastu.
The position of the entrance and the layout of the rooms can have an effect on a traditional assessment. The following practical considerations should also be taken into account: natural light, ventilation, and layout of the property.
The main entrance is an important part of Vastu. There are some traditional interpretations that prefer certain parts to the east than other parts.
If you have an existing home, ensure that the entrance is clean, well-lit and clear. Make sure that the door functions well and opens safely. Don't make costly structural modifications until you look at the entire floor plan.
The south-east direction is traditionally believed to be the best direction for the kitchen due to the association of this direction with the fire element in Vastu. Sometimes the north-west has been recommended as an alternative.
When setting up your kitchen:
The location of the kitchen should facilitate daily activities of cooking without compromising safety.
The traditional Vastu suggests that the master bedroom should be placed in the south-west direction. Additional bedrooms can be located as desired for the home and family.
Focus on the placement of comfortable furniture, privacy, ventilation and adequate storage. The direction of a bedroom is not a determinant to sleep quality or relationship outcomes.
The Vastu traditions suggest North, east and north-east to be ideal areas for living. The north-east is also a usual recommendation for a pooja room or the meditation space.
A prayer corner could be a more viable option than a prayer room if space is limited in the home.
Dubai apartments and villas generally have walls that cannot be moved around, plumbing that is installed by the developer, and layouts that are determined by the developer. Prior to redecorating, take a look at the current floor plan and determine which changes are feasible without extensive building.
